George Martin RIP
The legendary Beatles’ producer has passed away at the age of 90
Music producer George Martin has died at the age of 90. He was best known for his recording work with The Beatles, so much so that he was known as the “fifth Beatles”.
Martin, who was previously best known for producing records by comedians like Peter Sellers and Peter Cook, signed the band to Parlophone after every other label had passed. He worked with the band from their debut single “Love Me Do” in 1962 and continued up until their final bow with 1969′s “Abbey Road”.
Aside from The Beatles, Martin also worked with Gerry and the Pacemakers, Shirley Bassey, Elton John, Kenny Rogers, Celine Dion and Cilla Black as well as producing James Bond themes “Goldfinger” by Shirley Bassey and “Live and Let Die” by Paul McCartney and Wings. Here’s an interview which Paul Du Noyer did with the producer about his work with The Beatles.
