New Music – Ingid Lukas, Jeanne Added, Jones
Some other highlights from the recent Eurosonic festival in Groningen
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips below or check out all past New Music selections here.
Originally from Estonia and now based in Zurich, Ingrid Lukas put on a powerful and compelling live show at Eurosonic which showed off both her compositional suss when it came to enticing sounds and a distinctive and striking approach to live performance. Her third album “Demimonde” is a good place to go to find out more about her blend of ethereal vocals, off-kilter beats, dark percussive power and new-school jazz sensibility.
From the get-go, Jeanne Added’s show at Groningen’s Mutua Fides was a stomper. Here’s a musician who has found that lovely sweet spot between electronic music’s woozy appeal, indie rock’s character and the charm and guile of a strong theatrical performer. Check debut album “Be Sensational” to see some of the beguiling musical essence of this French singer.
A voice to stop you in your tracks, Jones has been showing off her smarts to date with wonderfully smokey and atmospheric cuts like her “Indulge” EP from last year and appearances on shows like Later. Live, though, the singer from Haggerston in east London ups the ante and knocks you for six with a mesmerising display of power and panache. A future soul singer to be reckoned with, her debut album “New Skin” is set for release in February and will include “Hoops” below.
