An interview with the jazz musician behind “The Epic”, OTR’s album of 2015 so far
Our album of the year so far is “The Epic”, that astonishing blast of sound from Kamasi Washington and friends. It’s an album which is epic by name and epic by nature, a 172 minute, three volume odyssey featuring Washtong, his 10 band-mates, a 32 piece orchestra and a 20-person strong choir soaring to the heavens and beyond. Washington is an interesting cat, an Inglewood, California native who has toured with some A-list names (including Snoop Dogg and Lauryn Hill), who is part of Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder crew and had a big hand in Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly” album. Interview from The Ticket with the main man here. He’s touring Europe later this year – sadly, no Irish date on this occasion – and you should check out “The Epic” right away if you haven’t done so already. And yes, you can easily spare three hours for it.
