New Music – Let’s Away, Iris Gold, Basciville
New sounds for your ears from Sunderland, London via Copenhagen and Wexford
Every week, we highlight a couple of new acts from around the globe who’ve caught our attention. Please feel free to share tips below or check out all past New Music selections here.
Let’s Away protagonists are two childhood pals from Sunderland who kept in touch when they moved to Manchester and London and began making tracks together. “Golden Morning” is a lovely dash of heartfelt pop with some charming to-ing and fro-ing in the mix, such as timeless, echoey melodies and plaintive vocals which owe a touch to classic indie styles.
“Goldmine” is the kind of jam you imagine when you think about the perfect summer. It’s the work of London-based, Copenhagen-raised newcomer Iris Gold who has picked up a serious amount of attention of late with high-profile support slots to Blur and Taylor Swift. Let’s hope her other tunes are as hot and infectious as the sweet hip-hop and hazy r’n'b blast of “Goldmine”.
Wexford siblings Cillian and Lorcan Byrne are the mainstays in Basciville, an outfit mining the blues, folk, soul and classic rock terrain in search of new nuggets. “Sweetheart Rodeo” below is one of their go-to tunes at present, a track with an impressive pitch and which sounds like the kind of tune which will weather well with time.
