The first of our selections from the acts who featured in the despatches from last week’s CMJ festival in New York, Buscabulla hail from Brooklyn via Puerto Rico. DJ and designer Raquel Berrios joined forces with Luis Alfredo Del Valle to make tunes which are as much about vintage Latin swings and roundabouts as new-school electronic music twists and turns. Check out their current EP on Kitsune for more.
From Chicago, Twin Peaks make a rare aul’ rattle. A youthful garage rock band kicking off the jams with considerable panache, they cut their teeth and honed their swagger with a long series of club shows and house parties in the Windy City and elsewhere. Recent album “Wild Onion” is full of really robust and rollicking tunes which all come with some bite.
Dark pop with some thrilling edges and frills from Bergen in Norway. Aurora Aksnes may be still a teenager but she’s already crafting pop with such a subtle, beautiful power and punch that the mighty Glassnote label have snapped her up. Have a listen to “Awakening” and dig why people are flipping out about this new bracing Nordic talent
