Rennes calling: it’s Trans Musicales time again
Line-up for the 36th edition of the French festival which lights up the December darkness
You may think that the end of the summer means the end of the music festival for another year, but you’d be wrong. There’s a plethora of events happening over the winter months, both at home (including Samhain, Hard Working Class Heroes and Other Voices) and away (mark your 2015 diary for a visit to Groningen for Eurosonic in January).
One of our new faves in recent years has been Trans Musicales in Rennes in France. This will be the festival’s 36th run and it has always come up trumps with the line-up thanks to the sharp ears of musical director Jean-Louis Brossard (good interview with him here about what he does and how he does it).
One of the acts we reckon people will be talking about afterwards is the ace Moses Sumney, who was one of our highlights from SXSW earlier this year. Other recommended acts on the bill include Awesome Tapes From Africa, Courtney Barnett, A-WA, Max Jury, Kate Tempest, Songhoy Blues, Curtis Harding, Soft Lit, Ten Walls, Cie Revolution, The Avener, Clap! Clap! and many more. There are also two Irish acts on the bill in the shape of the excellent Wife and New Jackson but, given Brossard’s record as a talent scout, you won’t go wrong with most of the bill.
