One of our favourite record labels is Numero, the Chicago-based reissue imprint which has put out some outstanding albums over the last couple of years. Founded in 2003, Numero specialises in shining some light on those “precious bits of passed-over sound, story, and ephemera” to bring you a “sprawling treasury of under-heard recordings”, all lovingly packaged and presented. There’s around 175 titles in all in their back catalogue, with everything from the Eccentric Soul’s guide to great unheralded soul labels from various US cities and the Good God! compiltions of funky spirituals to individual artist albums and much more.

Rob Sevier and Ken Shipley, the founders of the label, come to Dublin’s Sugar Club this Thursday (September 25) to talk about music, spin some music and answer questions about music from host Donal Dineen. It starts at 8pm and admission is €10 in advance or €12.50 on the door. They’re also in Cork’s Plugd Records on Friday night (September 26) from 8pm and admission here is free. Go along and ask ‘em to tell some tales about Willie Wright and that awesome “Telling the Truth” album.
