It’a always a pleasure to interview Martin Hayes and it’s roughly a year since we sat down in Pepper’s pub in Feakle for a lengthy chat about this, that and the other. Over the last 12 months, Hayes’ role in The Gloaming, that Irish-American supergroup responsible for one of the albums of the year, which has gained a lot of headlines. Ahead of the band’s sold-out show at St Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny tomorrow night (a show which is only their 10th performance of the year), I talked to him and fellow highly decorated band members Thomas Bartlett and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh about the joys of playing such transcendantal music.
