New Music – Bed., Slavve, Machineheart
New arrivals from Portland, Florida and Los Angeles
From Portland, Oregon, Bed’s new single “Boys” is a beaut, a rich wash of jagged, slo-mo garage pop. There are nods left and right to the likes of Real Estate, Galaxie 500 and Beach House, but there’s enough individual sparks within the track’s shy, winning groove to make you yearn for more.
Slavve are two Florida outcasts now residing in Brooklyn and making a superbly full-bodied racket. Chuka Chukuma and Marcos Marchesanu (ex-Surfer Blood) have already shown their cards with their self-titled EP which is full of fierce punky hardcore vim and vigour.
21st century guitar pop with a real verve, Machineheart’s “Circles” is an anthem in the making. The Los Angeles band make the very best use of their assets, chiefly Stevie Scott’s captivating voice and a winning way with guitar riffs.
