Here are the first slew of acts to be announced for this year’s Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co Laois from August 29 to 31.

OutKast (oh yes!)
Beck (new album “Morning Phase” is damn good)
Foals (as seen at Longitude last year)
Pet Shop Boys (as seen in fine form at this venue previously)
Nile Rodgers & Chic (sure, he might as well move to Ireland at this stage and be done with it)
Portishead (hell yeah!)
Paolo Nutini (there’s always one)
White Denim
Lily Allen
St Vincent
(good news for all those who’ve become Annie Clark fans of late)
Simple Minds (riiiiight)
London Grammar (a band who’ve done absolutely everything right in the last year)
(ah, Slowdive)
Laura Mvula (ace)
Annie Mac (double ace)
Flume (superb at Longitude last year)
The Stranglers
The Blades
(the reunion fever continues)
Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks
The Wailers

Omar Souleyman (Omar’s coming)

Jungle (one of the real hot acts at SXSW 2014)
FKA Twigs (an OTR new band favourite from way back)
John Withers

Tickets: between now and April 18, it’s €154.50 for a weekend ticket if you can prove you’ve been to three or more Picnics, €174.50 if you can prove you’ve been to the Picnic once or twice before and €194.50 if you don’t have a clue where Stradbally is. Tickets then increase to €194.50 until July 4 and, if there are any left, it will be €229.50 a pop after that date. If you want a day ticket for Sunday – and there’s no notion yet who will actually be playing on Sunday – it’s €90. You can add Ticketmaster’s Picnic tax and fees to all of the above prices.

The small print: not a smidgin on the press release about who is actually promoting this. Guess things are tense ahead of the big ding-dong on May 13
