Les lads: Daft Punk get lucky in the writers' poll of polls

Fri, Dec 13, 2013, 09:49

It’s the season for lists and no-one – and I mean no-one – does lists like journalists at this time of year. Scratch any hack at the moment and s/he will bleed lists. Of course, modern media mores means listicles are the way of the walk but, when it comes to December, all of us in this game are making lists and checking them twice.

The best thing about lists, however, is that they give you a chance to catch up on stuff you’re missed or forgot to check out. Every publication preps ‘em – this week’s tally included Spin, The Quietus, NPR and not forgetting Vice’s too-true contribution to the canon – and The Ticket is no exception.

Below, you will find the albums, tracks, Irish acts, solo acts, bands, videos and moments of 2012 as voted Ticket rock/pop writers Lauren Murphy, Tony Clayton-Lea, Ailbhe Malone, Brian Boyd, Una Mullally, Ian Maleney, Aoife Barry and myself (longer lists for albums and tracks in my case ‘cos it’s my blog innit). These selections were the basis for the shortlists for The Ticket Awards, which are currently being voted on by readers, and the results of which will be revealed in The Ticket next Friday (December 20). By the way, if you haven’t voted already, you have until Sunday at midnight to do so here.
