Yes, it’s that time of year again. The 10 albums on the Choice Music Prize shortlist for Irish Album of the Year 2012 are:

Wallis Bird “Wallis Bird” (Rubyworks)

The Cast of Cheers “Family” (Schoolboy Error)

Adrian Crowley “I See Three Birds Flying” (Chemikal Underground)

Delorentos “Little Sparks” (Delo Records)

Damien Dempsey “Almighty Love” (Sony)

Julie Feeney “Clocks” (Mittens)

Heathers “Kingdom” (Warner Music)

Mumblin’ Deaf Ro “Dictionary Crimes” (Popical Island)

Two Door Cinema Club “Beacon” (Kitsune)

Windings “I Am Not The Crow” (Out On A Limb)

You’ll find streams for all of the 10 albums after the jump. Thanks to Aidan from Goldenplec for pointing us towards the missing one.

The shortlist, which contains three previous winners, has been selected by a panel of 11 Irish music media people and they are:

Mark Kavanagh (Daily Star)
KC (Today FM)
Aoife Barry (The Ticket/Sweet Oblivion/2XM)
Craig Fitzpatrick (Hot Press)
Elaine Buckley (RTE TV, State, Entertainment.ie)
Sean Rocks (RTE Radio One’s Arena)
Eamonn Sweeney (Irish Independent)
Andy Kavanagh (TG4)
Steven McCauley (BBC Radio Foyle)
Eoghan O’Sullivan (Irish Examiner, The Point Of Everything)
Claire Beck (Phantom FM)

Tony Clayton-Lea is the chairman of the judging panel and the person who ensures there’s a winner on the night.

It’s worth noting that there’s only one repeat judge on that list, which is great to see as there were far too many repeat judges in the last two years (judges should really be excused jury service for life like they do after murder trials).

The details: the winning album will be selected by the judging panel at a live gig at Vicar Street, Dublin (great news that Choice is returning to its spiritual home) on Thursday March 8 and tickets for the show go on sale on January 13 at €22.50 (plus TM betting tax) each. The winning act will receive €10,000, a prize fund which has been provided by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA), and all the shortlisted acts will receive a specially-commissioned award, courtesy of those two organisations. The live show will be broadcast live on Today FM in a special four hour extended programme presented by Paul McLoone

OTR snap verdict: Delorentos all the way, but Damien Dempsey should also make a good showing. If the jury get, er, muddled, they’ll give it to Julie Feeney or Adrian Crowley again.

Mandatory DOI: yes, I co-founded this yoke years ago, but I have had no hand, act or part in it since April 2010 so I can now happily say what I want to about it. Such as the fact that those idiots left out one of the best Irish albums of the last 10 years. Guess that’s what you get with some of the cloth-eared saps on that panel.

See what I just did? That felt good. Now, over to you…
