It was bound to happen: an Irish music festival with a half-marathon thrown into the mix. That’s what’s on offer at the Valentia Isle festival happening on Valentia Island off the coast of Kerry on September 14 to 16. Aside from musical turns over three days on three stages from The Rubber Bandits, Jerry Fish, DJ Kormac, Tieranniesaur, The Disconauts, Delorentos, the Frank & Walters, This Club, Daithi, Toby Karr, Fred, Ham Sandwich, Donal Dineen, Slow Motion Heroes, Billy Scurry, The Young Folk, Rhob Cunningham and tons more – plus a range of other boutique fest trappings – the festival’s debut outing will also feature the Valentia Island Half Marathon on the Saturday. Weekend tickets with camping are €94.50, while weekend tickets without camping are €79.50 (plus transaction charges).

After Earagail and Galway, the other big beast on the Irish summer arts calendar is the Kilkenny Arts Festival which gets underway in the home of the ex-Leinster hurling champions next month. Acts heading to the Marble City to play for the natives and visitors include Josh T Pearson, Rachel Grimes, A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Jape, Warm Ghost, Cian Nugent, Mick Flannery, Katie Kim, the Archie Bronson Outfit, Resound, 3epkano, Aziz Sahmaoui & University of Gnawa, Seán Carpio, Steve Cooney, Matthias Loibner, Ivo Papasov, Mixtapes from the Underground, The Voice Squad, Dán and many more.
