Wilco to play Forbidden Fruit festival

    Jim Carroll

Word from our Windy City sources last night that Wilco will play on the Monday night at the Forbidden Fruit festival in Dublin over the June bank holiday weekend (June 2 to 4). They join the previously announced Factory Floor (who also play Dublin’s Banquet club at Tripod on Saturday week) and Grimes on the bill. Full line-up and ticket information to be announced next week.

Even though the Saturday last year took them by surprise, I was still impressed with the festival as a whole, especially the price tag of €90. Wilco and Factory Floor have solidified my decision to go again.

I hope the addition of the 3rd day dilute the quality of the acts.

Good choice for a summer’s day, better choice as a headliner than Aphex Twin anyway. Should pull a decent crowd.

wouldn’t be a big Wilco fan, but hopefully a few more from the Primavera bill will make their way over for the weekend.
I find it odd that they’ve decided to extend FF to Monday though. part of the reason it worked well last year was because Monday was the bank holiday. this year many people will have to take the Tuesday off, or just not drink, which isn’t great for a festival sponsored by a drinks company. although given the bar situation on Saturday last year, they mightn’t be able to get a drink even if they wanted to!

Ah Wilco of a Bank Holiday Monday. Hopefully a nice way to wind down. I hear Modeselektor, Liars and Rustie are rumoured to be playing also?

Wilco would be a perfect band for a summer’s night in hazy, balmy Dubberlin town!

Saw them on their last visit here to Vicar Street and they were fantastic.

Was there on the Sunday last year and it was great crack!

    Robert@8,

they’re all playing Field Day in London that same weekend, so entirely possible that they’ll jump on the plane over here.

Pretty solid bill so far with Wilco, Grimes and Factory Floor. If the rest of the bill meets that mark (and has some more of the Primavera/Field Day names – I want to see The xx, The Men, Julia Holter, Friends, White Denim, A$AP Rocky and Django Django and I’m sure you all have your own lists), I reckon many would swap Barca and east London for Kilmainham instead.

Is that €90 for the whole weekend? That’s pretty good alright.

I was at the CXSW festival when this was on last year, so I’m hoping that will be on again. Jape was joking about the fact that there was no one at the bar, and the previous day at FF people couldn’t get a drink for love or money

themechanic – tickets in 2011 were €49.50 (one day) and €90 (weekend) plus Ticketmaster fees

FF really has the potential to build on last years success, im almost certainly going (although id prefer if it was fri-sun rather than sat – mon) and their bookings seem as good as last year- eclectic yet accessible- would love to see a modeselection stage.

@18 – Oh, sure, The parallels are obvious, apart from the fact that Wilco don’t have a cavalier attitude to their own back catalogue, Tweedy engages with the audience, and they don’t market every tour with a patronising “In Show and Concert: Don’t You Dare Miss It!” tagline.

    @Jim

That was good, I suppose I didn’t even check the price at the time because I was going to CXSW. If the price was the same, and Skib didn’t happen, I’d definitely head along to this
