Gillian Welch ahoy! Anyone who saw Welch and David Rawlings when they played Vicar Street in 2003 or the Midlands festival in 2007 will cheer this one to the rooftops. She plays Dublin’s Grand Canal Theatre on November 17 and Belfast’s Waterfront the following night. Tickets go on sale on Friday and will be €29.50 and €34 (plus TM charges) for the Dublin show.

Another gig announced yesterday worth checking out is Alliance – independent artists for Africa – which is a huge charity fundraiser which takes places at Whelan’s, Dublin on September 25. All proceeds go to Concern’s Horn of Africa crisis appeal. On the bill: And So I Watch You From Afar, Patrick Kelleher & His Cold Dead Hands, Retarded Cop (hi Gaz), Tieranniesaur, Toby Kaar, Spies, We Are Losers, The Last Days Of 1984, Moths, Great Lakes Mystery, Sert One, Alarmist, Daithi and many more to be announced. Tickets are €15 and are now on sales from Tickets.ie and the WAV box office. Go on, show some Concern.
