    Nightbox

Five Wicklow kids in Toronto, Nightbox are already showing a tasty ability when it comes to indie-pop tunes with blissful grooves and merry bleeps. I see Underbelly: Razor is starting in Oz this week……cant wait to see it

Series 2 and 3 are top drawer…..Series 1 less so

Been enjoying Shlohmo’s debut album “Bad Vibes” this week. He’s one of those LA beat scene guys, but his sound is a little less showy and hyperactive than most of the stuff i’ve heard coming out of there. It’s not that far away from Mount Kimbie at times. Cool, melancholic stuff but with the occasional bit of heaviness to shake things up

    • Scarecrows of the Stipe says:

I dont reckon there are many here that are familiar with Brooklyn outfit THE VANDELLES but their album “Del Black Aloha ” is off the goddamn chain !!

The only band that could hold a candle to the guitar sound they achieve on that album ( through experimenting with digital clipping ) are A Place to Bury Strangers . Plus ,Honey (drums ) & Lulu ( bass ) are hands down the hottest rhythm section in rock !!

    • petee says:

i quite like lana del ray , her song ‘video games ‘ is pretty damn good

petee – fantastic tune! Got tipped to it by We Cut Corners the other night – it’s on the Now Playing list for tomorrow

cmd – have to check out that Shlohmo album

    • Howard says:

I’ll second that Schlomo comment, it’s a pretty nice listen. Those Nicolas Jaar Bluewave edits going around are ridiculously great too. By far the greatest talent to emerge this year.

    • Bren Jacob says:

Wasnt sure at all about the Nightbox track on first listen but gave it a few more plays and its really grown on me.
TDCC meets Klaxons circa Golden Skans

    • Jim Carroll says:

Bren – on a similar tip, have a listen to This Club (nee Hoarsebox) – very impressive tunes

    • Bren Jacob says:

@ Jim – I must have listened to “I Wont Worry” by This Club about 20 times over the last three or four days Jim!
Like Nightbox I didnt rate it at all on first listen but after a few spins I found myself nodding along with it, a real grower.
Yer mans vocals in the first two verses are fantastic!

    • Brian says:

I vote for Swords. Even though this isn’t a vote, My dedication is admirable.
