Beyond a clatter of tracks on his/her/their Soundcloud page, we know absolutely zilch about this Galway-based act or combo. But the tunes, especially “Apotheosis” and “Mani pulite”, are magnificently moody and perfectly crafted. It will probably turn out to be a member of the Sawdoctors.
Yeh Deadlies’ member and formerly of Chicks, Annie Tierney’s solo disco-not-disco bag comes with a cheeky swagger and one hell of a groove. Check out the Tom Tom Club-like “Here Be Monsters” from the forthcoming “Popical Island Vol 2” compilation (to be launched at a bash at Whelan’s, Dublin on June 25) and prepare to swing.
New Yorker Mike Grubbs and his band have already released a bunch of records for the Family label as they’ve sorted out their classical pop earworms and heartfelt ballads. Along the way, Grubbs has found himself starring in TV show One Tree Hill, but don’t hold that against him.
