Only ones that really affect me are UNKLE/The Horrors, the crossover between Foals/Modest Mouse and the awkwardness between The National, the Low Anthem and Fever Ray. Happy enough though. LCD should be on the Main Stage but between them and Hot Chip that Electric Arena will be hopping on Saturday night

Looking forward to LCD in electric arena but would like to have seen teh frames. I reckon LVD is gonna be crazy packed (Florence style last year).

Its the Crawdaddy stage for me on Saturday Night.

So can we get a few recommendations for the festival. Say 3 -5 acts to see on each day…..

Argggh – Eels vs. Pil clash alert. Pil it will have to be. Eels will be back for their own gig later in the year no doubt.

Some overlapping between Fever Ray/National/Massive Attack but could be a lot worse. Will see all of Fever Ray (Do NOT miss this) and most of Massive Attack and National. Looking forward to MNDR, Crystal Castles, L Marling, Philip Selway too…And So I Watch You From Afar and A Crowley will get Saturday going very nicely indeed.

Mountain Man might work on the main stage if the weather’s good. Can’t see Roxy Music pulling it off as a mainstage headline act though.

Roxy music Vs eels; phil selway vs villagers; low anthem vs national are the 3 big clashes for me. But clashes are as inevitable as manky toilets.

The most important question is what’s the deal with 45min to 1 hour gaps between some acts on the bigger stages. I can’t remeber it being that long other years.

And Quint, have you heard anything about a proper eels gig? That would be sweet.

Is Trenchtown back? As much as I love slowly swaying to the same beat for 14 hours a day, I might give it a miss.

An awful lot of cash to fork out for what are 90% unknown bands and a couple of decent ones. Even the headliners are not really headline material. e240 for a ticket, and at least another e260 say for transport, food and drink etc making it a e500 weekend at least. Sure you can have a weeks holiday in the Meditteranean for that much. And there you’ll have guaranteed sunshine, no queues for toilets or showers (covered in other peoples faecal mess) and much less crazy weirdos wandering around. One well aimed nuclear bomb on Stradbally, and another on Punchestown at Oxegen time and we’d wipe out half the delinquent messers in this country as well as all those thieving music promoters and overated layabout bands. Hoo haa!

EP started in 2004 and only massive and the Frames have played before.

Peter@28”And Quint, have you heard anything about a proper eels gig? That would be sweet”

No, heard nothing yet but there are usually gig announcements after the Picnic and hopefully Eels will be one – new album out and all that and they haven’t played here in a while. I doubt Pil will be back for a standalone gig so I’m gonna go see them instead. Who can resist that Lydon snarl? Get the bread ready – Britain and Cork’s best butter salesman is on his way!

Saw Roxy Music at Rock en Seine in Paris last Sunday night. Great versions of ‘Virginia Plain’ and ‘Love Is The Drug’ really got everyone buzzing, although a few proggier numbers in a row (a bit of a Montreaux Jazz Festival vibe) midway almost dampened the buzz. No ’80s cocktail lounge/coffee table stuff like ‘Avalon’, mostly 70s stuff with ‘Let’s Stick Together’ and ‘Jealous Guy’ as encores. Overall the sound and visuals were great and himself was in suave form. Definitely worth seeing, though the clash with PiL AND Eels is a tough one…

flynnduism/ciaran – re axing of theatre groups. Could anyone hear have named those 22 groups before this thread went up? People don’t buy tix for EP for theatre groups – yes, it’s part of the package but you don’t spend €240 for some plays. I think it’s probably a cutback – though a strange one, seeing as they weren’t paying for their services, per that post – but it’s probably not the only one. As Joe said on another post yestereday, this is the year when people deemed that €240 was too much, no matter how much they wanted to see Janelle Monae, The National, Crystal Swing or Ryan Tubridy reading the newspapers.

Nice line up so far with decent amount of acts to see throughout the three days. And the (predicted) smaller crowds could actually be good for the festival, less queues etc.

Mountain Man will be terrible on any stage, big or small. Saw them earlier this year – shudder. Crazy sticking them on the main stage.

    Jim@43,

no, absolutely not. I have no interest whatsoever in plays, cabarets, debates, talks, or any of the non-music stuff at all. personally i’d be delighted if they cut about 50% of the attractions, and brought down the ticket price.

It just seems very strange that they’re cutting things from the bill at this stage, especially seeing as you’d think EP would be trying to get as many bodies through the door to make money in other areas (eg. the massive amount of competitions for tickets going).
if they’re cutting acts (however irrelevent to 95% of people), then i wonder how that bodes for the rest of the festival, given the organisational and and facilities cutbacks of last year?

although, Reynolds says it’s going to be a glorious sunny 22degree sell-out, so there couldn’t possibly be problems….

Talking about cut backs at EP. I recently heard band passes were now valid as day passes and not weekend passes. Is this true does anyone know? Take that free loaders!

John – that was always the case – bands had to request weekend passes if they wanted one.

    Statement released

“We appreciate the huge amount of work and commitment that go into creating the theatre shows but unfortunately the programme was over booked by the person who was scheduling it. The numbers were simply in excess of what is acceptable from a health and safety point of view.

This emerged between ten days and two weeks ago, and at that point we asked the person responsible for the booking to inform everyone of the situation and warn companies that there show may not be able to go ahead. Unfortunately this did not happen.

We regret the significant inconvenience caused by this and we hope to work with the companies affected to contribute to the programme next year. We are also working to see if we can get a limited number of the cancelled shows rescheduled.”

I’d be happy with just the music stages and Mindfield – get rid of everything else – even Body and Soul!!(I know, shock, horror|). Reduce ticket price and get better headliners with the savings made.

Day passes? Well, yee-haw. One measly day pass to treck all the way down to Laois, lug your set and costumes through a million acres, do the show, then leave the premises. No payment in kind at all, just the sheer honour of performing at the blessed Electric Picnic. No thanks!
