PVT, Dublin, September
Jim Carroll
The next On The Record Presents gig will be PVT (the band formerly known as Pivot) who will play The Workman’s Club in Dublin on September 9. This will be one of the first shows at the new venue, which is located next door to the Clarence Hotel on Wellington Quay. Tickets for the gig go on sale on Friday at €13.50 (plus Ticketmaster charges) a pop. News on support acts and all the rest of it to come. PVT’s new album “Church with No Magic” is released on Warp Records on August 6.

not sure if it’s reported yet but Fionn Regan, Humanzi and Fighting with Wire are also booked in.

Think PVT are a much bigger and better deal than Humanzi or Fionn Regan or Fighting with Wire! PVT were savage at Whelan’s a few years ago. Really looking forward to this.
@2
PVT (Pivot) virgin I am, liking the tune but jesus that video would make you hurl after a while…think that’s what the world looked like after BSS on sunday….oi
The only thing i know about PIVOT or PVT is that there’s a poster hanging in the office on the The IT Crowd!
Fergal – as I’ve never seen the show, is that a good or a bad thing?
It’s a good thing Jim!
Think I’m slightly dizzy after that vid. Time for a cup of scald…
Bill/caroline – now that we’re nearly there wth getting Soundcloud up and running on the blog, it means that OTR will be able to stop relying on YouTube videos when it comes to music on the blog so less dizzy/whirly/hurly videos!
@4
awww that’s where I know it from! love the new season of the IT crowd…Jim it’s a leave behind your brain at the door and watch kinda show…think fr ted for geeks

@5 Definitely a good thing Jim! Watch the “Facefriend” episode on 4OD. It’s one of the funniest!
Some other band posters on The IT Crowd office wall include My Morning Jacket and Guided By Voices for your info!
I only got into it recently myself which means i have 3 series plus to gorge on.
Fergal’s mention of Guided By Voices gives me the perfect excuse to mention the recent announcement of their reunion show… which I’m going to
Most eagerly anticipated weekend of the year!
New PVT album is class. Good band, new venue and only 13.50 a ticket – sounds perfect!
Except I don’t think I’ll be able to go…sort of getting married two days after it so might be a bit of a busy few days…
(excuses excuses eh)
Will take up the tips on The IT Crowd
Neill – congrats on the impending wedding!
Fiona – this the show in Las Vegas, right?
this’ll be well worth the trip east from the wesht! saw them in EP in 2008 and really liked their mojo, best thing I saw there that year (and that’s with a veery fuzzy recollection!)
Caroline@1: That photo of the Workman’s club doesn’t inspire confidence. Is there a door each side of the stage???? WTF? I presume they have an AWFUL lot work to do on it…..
Jim – yes, that’s the one. Come and Chavez are getting back together for the weekend too, but GBV is the biggie for me. Unfortunately TFUL282 turned down a request to play – that would have *almost* been as huge as GBV reforming – at least for me.
Quint – backlash against venue started before it even opens based on polaroid photo. Love it.
any chance of factory floor as support jim? seeing them in three weeks in london would love a dublin show for them
As long as the jacks are at the rear of the room it’ll be grand…which reminds me why did they ever think The Village would work when you’ve to push through the crowd to spend a penny/cent…
I had the same thought as Quint to be honest….looks like a smaller version of the Village on the basis of that 1 photo.
JC – as far removed from The Village as you can ever get! Have you not gone down yet for a look?
It’s in my diary!
Jim@16: ”Quint – backlash against venue started before it even opens based on polaroid photo. Love it”
Whether it’s a polaroid or a hi-def digital photo, I can still clearly see a door and some stairs leading to another area on the left of the stage and another door on the right hand side. As JC pointed out, it has shades of the awful Village venue which has a wide walkway leading to the toilets to the left of the stage. I’m not starting a backlash – if it’s as good as the Workman people and Hotpress say, and it’s a really well – designed venue (and those doors are just temporary) I will be down every week. I’m just worried, judging on that photo, that we might have another badly-designed smallish venue on our hands – we already have Crawdaddy, the Village and of course Academy 2 – we don’t need another one. I hope I’m wrong.
Quint – they’re the doors leading to The Other World, dude
Looking at the photo, it seems like the doors are only access to backstage, as is the norm with the layout of a schoolhall stage.
Cheers Jim!
