Prince says internet is “totally over”, tells lolcats to chill
Jim Carroll
Quote of the year: “”The internet’s completely over. I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it. The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you.”
You’d never think old Squigglehead had a new album coming out that he’s giving away for free next weekend via a newspaper (which has a website), would you?

Internet over??!??!!!
Mindblowing stuff! I wonder how this will impact the war against file sharing…?
James D – seems the “war” against file sharing isn’t going too well – http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20100705/15222910076.shtml
You can’t even call this shit a war…wars end.
Shit. Can’t believe Prince just made my job irrelevant with a stroke of his squiggle.
Anthony McG – it’s all irrelevant in Prince’s eyes because The Internet “just fill your head with numbers”. Like 8,765,324
In relation to file sharing Chuck D has it right:
“Public Enemy leader Chuck D told Wired that he believes in and supports file sharing’s continued existence in the industry.
“I’ve been spending most of my career ducking lawyers, accountants and business executives who have basically been more blasphemous than file sharers and P2P. I trust the consumer more than I trust the people who have been at the helm of these companies.”
The internet’s over? What am I looking at then? I am really confused.
RH – I am also v confused about this and especially how I read Prince’s the-internet-is-over pronouncement on the internet. Gazooks!
Any previews of this free prince album on YouTube/MySpace/any blogs? 1:for the irony 2:as a matter of interest!
STY – Tony Parsons has reviewed it for The Mirror and – surprise, suprise – thinks it’s the best thing he’s encountered since he first set eyes on Julie Burchill

In fairness to Prince he does know a lot about having a head full of numbers… 1999, 3121, L0tuUSFLOW3R, I Would Die 4 U, Nothing Compares 2U….
I thought it was only blogging that was over.
The Internet is over. The future is…free albums with newspapers! Why, of course!

unsurprisingly, i hope he’s right (to a degree)…
I think that he simply misunderstood what all of the hype around the iTablet was actually about and thought that a technological apocalypse was upon us. Anyways, I suppose that we could call it the Medium Formerly Known as Cyberspace.
That reads like a Barry Egan review
Wonder if its all numbers are bad for you or just numbers from the internet.
Could the numbers thing explain what they were doing down the Hatch in Lost?
He’s right though…….It’s been seven hours and fifteen days since I was on the internet, I typed this message on my typewriter and posted it to The Irish Times.
the guy is clearly a hero haha!
Tony Parsons is a “C” word.
Whether Prince is right or wrong, one must acquiesce in the fact that his ability to operate from without the conceptual box, free from the constraints of industry dogmatism and at times, perhaps reason, is what has kept his career alive..
