From the record label who introduced us to Girls and Lemonade, say hello to The Morning Benders.

True Panther are one of a bunch of record labels to keep an eye on. Sure, we know that the bigger picture is all doom and gloom, a slump in sales and a shrinking bottom line. But there are some folks who see moments of great change and chaos as an opportunity. I don’t know any of the people involved in True Panther or if they harbour any aspirations for world domination, but they do know their way around some fine pop singles. If it’s filters you’re after to help you chart a way through an ocean of new bands, True Panther will see you right.

Along with the excellent Magic Kids from Memphis, The Morning Benders are the latest act on the label’s starting block. From Berkeley, California, they’ve been around for a couple of years and “Promises’ is taken from their soon-come “Big Echo” second album which Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles’ fellow Chris Taylor has had a part in producing.

“Promises” is a tune which strikes all the right notes: a laidback swell of strums, perfect harmonies, a lovely soft swagger and a perfect sense of awareness about what lies ahead. Get hip to “Promises” here or here.
