Sad to here about Liam Clancy hitting the road for good today. He had some run. Got to see him a couple of times when he swung by the local theater and he still had an amazing energy up til two years his last show here a year (?) ago.

@24 Remember that he had a cold, so it was not the spine-tingler that I had been hoping for. High expectations probably dampened my impression of the show, as a result. But it was still quite good.

Did not think that he was especially shy. Not exactly Bruce Springsteen, but not exactly Cat Power either.

JD – that gig at SXSW was just a case of the wrong man in the wrong venue at the wrong time. I didn’t get to see him in Crawdaddy when he played this year so I don’t know how he went down there. And you’re right – limited touring is not a good idea in an era when the only way of making an income is to go on the road. Unless you’re Enya.

Interesting Jim, even if events like that at SXSW could happen to anyone on any given night.

As you know, though, limited touring does go against the grain of how to earn a crust as a modern-day full-time musician, so it is interesting to note the references to teaching and studying.

That said, he is hardly the first introspective performer either to have found the going tough initially. Others have grown into it with time and hopefully he can too.
