  • Gigroll

    November 23, 2009 @ 2:29 pm | by Jim Carroll

It’s the day for gig announcements. In no particular order whatsoever, here are the latest additions to the gigroll, plus a few announcements from last week.

Feedback is a Lakota Media-helmed one-day bash at Whelan’s in Dublin on December 5 with Cap Pas Cap, 202s, the Dead Flags, Valerie Francis, the Holy Roman Army, the Sick & Indigent Song Club, David Turpin, Patrick Kelleher & His Cold Dead Hands and the Soundcheck DJs playing from 8pm till late. Tickets are a tenner and all proceeds will go to Peter McVerry Trust.

Super-duper fado diva Mariza plays Dublin’s National Concert Hall on February 11. Tickets for this one are €35, €40 and €45. Her show at Dublin’s Liberty Hall a few years ago was a wow so this one is highly recommended.

Money for old rope dept: Kiss play Dublin’s O2 on May 7. Tickets are €49.50 and go on sale on Friday. And Lynyrd Skynyrd play the same venue on March 10 with tickets at €49.20 (standing) and €54.80 (sitting). Kiss? Lynyrd Skynyrd? Strewth, surely that’s enough old dopes for one day.

Apparently not. U2 are set to play Glastonbury 2010.

Girls play Dublin’s Whelan’s on March 1. Tickets are €16.50. Their album is fantastic so check them out.

Quint - tell me about it. Excerpts from the “I thought you were dead” book.

Looks like we might be in for a quiet 2010 on the big gig front. Not a lot announced yet compared to last year.

Bill Bailey made great capital out of CDB-gate at he weekend - opened the show with it! He even wrote to Peter Crawley after he read the review. You can imagine who’s side he was on…

Beach House back in Feb. Always a pleasure.

Saw Girls over the summer and they definitely have a few tunes alright.

Just a quick note for promoters who seem to think they can throw any and every gig into the comments here - there’s a weekly plugs post where you can do just that, no questions asked. Any other plugs masquerading as comments will simply be deleted.

Oh, hadn’t seen that version of Girls’ video! That’s Hunx of Gravy Train!!!! and … & his Punx in the red skivvies. The other version of the video, in which he dispenses with said skivvies, is a sight to behold…

Anyhow - yes, fantastic album and so beautiful and true live, recommended.
