    Homelights Festival, Dublin, November

    Jim Carroll

A smashing line-up for the four night Adrian Crowley and Foggy Notions-curated Homelights fest at Dublin’s Whelan’s. The act which stands out for me on the weekend bill is the fantastic Vashti Bunyan on November 29, but there are plenty of others here to tempt you out from your TV.

The full line-up is as follows: solo performance from Adrian Crowley and collaborations with various friends (November 27, tickets €12); Adrian Crowley and band, James Yorkston, Adem and Alasdair Roberts (November 28 from 3pm, tickets €20); Vashti Bunyan, Andy Irvine, Minotaur Shock, Lord Cut-Glass and Adrian Crowley with Geese (November 29; tickets €25) and Dosh, Hulk and guests (November 30, tickets €15). All the above tickets – and limited weekend tickets at €45 a pop – are available here.

That looks really good in places. I think the November 30th gig is the one that most appeals to me.

Also piquing my interest is this Norman Blake/Euros Childs gig on Saturday, really like this tune they did together.

Oh excellent. Very excited about Vashti, hoping his old tour buddies Vetiver can make an appearance somewhere too

Ian – v excited about Vashti Bunyan on the bill – and that last Minotaur Shock album was the business.

Memo to self: put up that interview you did with Vashti about trying to buy a farm in Co Galway

Vashti Bunyan? Wow, excellent! Anyone notice they used Just Another Diamond Day (the song) in ‘Away We Go’ during the scene where the couple visit Maggie Gyllenhall’s hippie character LN?

Oooh, Minotaur Shock! One of their/its tracks, “Vigo Bay”, is on the Colette No.7 compilation from Colette Paris (the shop, not me) and I think Karl Largerfeld put it on the compilation that he gathered/put his name to for Colette Paris also. It’s a fine tune.

That’s a fine line-up – Andy Irvine must have reached “national treasure” status by now. Anybody know what the new Alasdair Roberts album is like? He had a fine album called “Farewell Sorrow” a while back but I’ve let him slip off the radar since.

Minotaur Shock’s last album was brilliant altogether, one of the best of 08. Nice excuse to dig it out of the digital depths. That’s a decent set of shindigs that is. Away We Go annoyed me, noticed the Vashti Bunyan used as short hand for freakiy hippie too.

looks utterly ace. Adem Ilhan is an inexplicably overlooked songwriter. His two albums are solid gold from start to finish.

think flynnduism is getting mixed up with devendra banhart…

ali roberts new album is fantastic… farewell sorrow is an all time fave and i really hope people turn out to see him… last time he was in dublin there were about 30 people there… may have alex neilson drumming also…

adrian crowley is a big friend of the fence collective and is trying to model this festival on their homegame which is undoubtedly one of the most special festivals in this wee world…

Hey Ally, Didn’t AC tour with Vetiver last year? I seem to remember reading it here on a tour diary. This should be great.
