  • What time is it? It’s plug time

    July 17, 2009 @ 9:28 am | by Jim Carroll

In The Ticket, your best weekly guide to music and movies on the planet, Donald Clark goes moonwalking with Duncan “Zowie Bowie” Jones, director of the rather awesome Moon, we go Dutch with comedian Hans Teeuwen, one of the stars of the forthcoming Carlsberg Comedy Carnival in Dublin, Brian Boyd gives this year’s Mercury Music Prize (the British version of the Choice Music Prize) to Doves and there are music interviews with Alela Diane and VV Brown.

The New Music pin-ups are Janelle Monae, Shit Robot, Chief, Size2Shoes, Hawthorne Headhunters and Ran (the last four are not included in the online edition for some reason), and there’s Music News about Arthur’s Day, even more Michael Jackson merchandise and Julian Casablancas’ solo Stroke.

The Album of the Week gong goes to Steve Kuhn Trio with Joe Lovano and there are also reviews of recent releases and reissues from Wallis Bird, Major Lazer, Lucky Elephant, Mos Def, VV Brown, The Dead Weather, Clark, Jeff Buckley and many more. Plus Eoin Butler goes a-wry with the singles.

New flicks for your viewing pleasure include Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Moon, Wide Open Spaces and Frozen River. Plus DVD reviews, film news and the weekly quiz

    The Ticket: walk this way

As usual at this time of the week, the OTR community noticeboard is now open for business. Keep your plugs short and snappy and please don’t pin your ad over the ad of someone else. Loads of room for everyone! And do declare an interest where one should be declared.

Need some help identifying a band if anyone can help.

The band consists of about nine african americans with various trumpets and trumbones accompanied by a drummer. They gave an awesome performance.

They were on the Glastonbury BBC coverage playing in the BBC area.

Cheers for the help, and do they sound as good on cd?

Biggest record selling event yet for the Bernard Shaw with the return of the 12 Music Fair this Sunday 19th of July.
I will be there selling noise, ambient, heavy rock and “other” records. Also I have some fresh stock just got in on time for the event.
There’s also some sizable dealers and a rep from newly opened Cult Fiction so should have plenty on offer.

    Event kicks off at 1

Andy - well, it was one or the other! That’s the problem with 8-strong brass bands - you wait an age for one and two show up on the same TV channel covering the same festival on the same weekend

Hot 8 Brass Band. Also regular visitors to Ireland - played here last week in fact - not playing the Electric Picnic

@11..from the hotpress website The Edges thoughts on Michael Jackson..”I wouldn’t want to judge the guy, I don’t know enough about his situation, but it does seem, as a casual observer, that he had huge problems and his own personal life was a bit of a mess, and that’s really a shame.”

Forget yer Pixies and Sonic Youths, THIS is the most exciting gig announcement in years - provided ,of course, they play Dublin also.
