It’s all Oxegen all weekend from here on in.
There are 207 bands and DJs playing at Oxegen this weekend. 2 Many DJs? Yeah, they’re on the bill. Too much choice? I’ll leave that up to you to decide. I know I could probably pick a tune of the day from each stage for each day and still feel I’m leaving someone out. Every single shade of the musical spectrum will be repped at Punchestown, from Lady Gaga to Hudson Mohawke to The Horrors. It’s Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for music fans – and yeah, there will probably be plenty of Oompa Loompas in Co Kildare too, especially in the VIP area.
If you’re going to Oxegen, have a blast and feel free to tell me who I shouldn’t miss. If you’re not, this blog will be in the Punchestown timezone for the next couple of days so please drop by for updates and the like.
Blur play the main stage at Oxegen on Friday night around about 11.10pm and, of all the bands who will be limbering up in the parade ring, the weekend is theirs for the taking. There has been a lot of rot written about the band since they announced their comeback, all that guff about how they are the Beatles of their generation (didn’t the Beatles do rather well in the U S of A?), but the fact remains that we’ve probably missed them. Each may have taken solo shots at the moon – and Damon Albarn has arguably succeeded in hitting the target more often than the others – but there is a sense of unfinished business about them which this reunion run is only further accentuating. When – not if – they get back into a studio together, they may well be capable of penning more tunes like this.
