Jim,
I thought you hated Humanzi….what gives?
Brendan
Brendan – very simple. Their first album was a pile of unmitigated poo, the sound of a band who really didn’t know what they were doing. This CD arrived and, as happens with every CD I get sent, I listened to it. It’s fucking amazing and I played it last week and again this week on the show. I’m now very curious to hear the new album – if “Bass Balls” is what happened to the band after splitting off to Berlin, more bands should head east. Track is at http://www.myspace.com/humanzi
i love the Juan Maclean album.
what has happened to james lavelle’s mo wax label? Entroducing is still one of my fav albums of all time
petee – it gets better and better, doesnt it? As far as I know, Mo Wax folded – that deluxe version of DJ Shadow’s “Endtroducing” came out via Universal.
Mo Wax was a cracking label – it released one of my fave tracks ever in Luke Vibert’s “Sharp AZ” on the “Headz” compilation – but I think it lost its way when Lavelle lost interest in it and tried to become a rock star via UNKLE
oohh some new bands there for me to investigate..hopefully will help make the working day go that little bit faster
on a seperate note, i read this morning this
http://blogs.myspace.com/delorentos
mo wax was bought out by Universal a few years ago, pretty much stopped releases around then. It ten year or so run of releases was outstanding to say the least. have to go and ttawl through my cd collection and listen to some mo wax releases.
caroline – let me know if you need any links to any of those new bands. And thanks for the Delorentos heads-up – see other post
ti – some wonderful releases alright – that “Headz” compilation and the La Funk Mob releases are the ones I remember most fondly
The depression drove me to bed early and I missed the end of the show and DJ Shadow! Damn!
Catch – 4-4 is the height of depression. Like i said last night, i blame all those home draws late last year
the first unkle ep and Major force west collection well worth checking out from mo wax jim,
La Funk mob material is definetly one i have to revisit this week,
It graphic style for sleeves and artwork was outstanding as well.
and nice to hear the amanda blank track on the radio last nite
there was a great la funk mob compilation released last year.
i remember howie b and dj krush releasing some cracking tunes on mo wax as well
Really liking the xx jim, even there dodgey womack and womack cover… any word on these guys releasing an album anytime soon?
Jim, have you any idea how to track down ‘Sharp AZ’? I’ve looked at every online store and auction site I can think of to find the album and no luck at all. Such a great tune, fond memories of Dineen’s homemade video accompanying it on No Disco. Great to see Hunter-Gatherer on the playlist, great ep.
ti – i feel a mo wax love-in coming on, And that amanda blank track worked just right with The Major Lazer and The Hood Internet last night
petee – mo wax was the shizzle for some time
davie – haven’t a clue – had been meaning to play that track for the last few weeks. It’s lovely, isn’t it?
Chris – Its on the “Headz II, part B” compilation which, unfortunately, now seems to cost a small fortune – http://www.amazon.co.uk/Headz-Vol-2b-Various-Artists/dp/B000007576/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1240401234&sr=1-1
And I’m loving that Hunter-Gatherer EP which people should download for free at http://www.myspace.com/huntergathererforever
Good timing for playing Hunter-Gatherer, he’s got a full album nearly mastered which should be out in the next few months.
really enjoying the white rabbits, checking out the rest of their catalogue this afternoon…i note they recently toured with Spoon who I also love…new album on the way..cant wait
any chance they’ll be coming over these parts any time soon?! their myspace page shows lots of US shows..
forgive me for being on a complete mo wax trip today but i also loved the dr octogan album Dr. Octagonecologyst

Really like Opposition Research off of the EP. He’s going to be blighted by his real name though.

Jim O’Rourke.
Ah, I get it. Sure, that’s no problem. Look at yourself – or myself – and our so-called famous namesakes. Hasn’t done us any harm….I think
Speak for yourself, my dream of hosting shitty UK lotto game shows have been dashed thanks to him. 185 gooner goals notwithstanding, I’ll never forgive him.
Hey Jim,
I know who Ian Wright is, but who is Jim Carroll?
ehhh…….
