Meteor Music Awards folks wake up and shut down website

    Jim Carroll

It seems that the link to this year’s Meteor Music Awards nominations which I posted earlier is now not working. I assume the Meteor web monkeys must have dropped a cup of coffee with soya milk into the interweb and that caused the leak.

Too much repetition across categories. A show with this few actual awards shouldn’t overlap so much.

Dan Hegarty for Best National DJ
Fight Like Apes for Best Irish Band
    Jape for Best Irish Male

The best album’s list isn’t that appealing, so I’ll leave it
Best Live Perfermance???? Where?? When?? Who saw it?? Who cares??

Very little of anything else there piques my interest, so I’ll say nowt.

Of course there’s nothing to get excited about. There never is. The usual, depressingly familiar names crop up year in, year out that befits a tiny music industry here. Fanning, Rick’OShea, Damo Dempsey, Blizzards, Boy Bands, couple of token ‘indie’ acts…yawn.

Should just be a best American accent DJ category really – but I guess that would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

And there’s such a huge problem with the radio stations awards…

National DJ – ok with that
Regional DJ?? Problem lies here, I think this category should be fairly sorted into 3 sub categories, becuase according to BCI Regional stations are Beat, Spinsouthwest, I102104, and I105107.. that’s only 4 regionals… then you’ve local stations, and then the dublin stations. So I’d make it, Best Regional DJ, Best Dublin DJ and Best Local DJ…. that’s fair…

Markham – Enya got some love from the Meteors because she was shafted by The Ticket in last year’s 40 Best irish Albums of All Time poll.

This Meteors nod will also soften her up for an appearance on the Sunday at Oxegen

The Wire isn’t high-brow enough for the musical tour-de-force that is Enya.
I know we all complain about how ticket prices for certain gigs are way too expensive and such, but I’d sell my own mother for a chance to see Enya live with OBTN backing her up.

When I was younger, scary stories were passed around school from kid to kid.
Apparently, if you stood in front of a mirror at 12 midnight and said Enya three-times while turning anti-clockwise over and over again – her apparition would appear and give you a copy of “Shepherd Moons” – her 1991 album which one the Grammy for “best new age album” of 1993 (thank you wikipedia).

Can we please launch a campaign to stop Foley winning? I think it’s only fair because he’s giving himself a boost every day on the radio and even has the cheek to ask his listeners to give out the number. So I say it now.

Foley won it last year. Let’s not have another D’Arcy. Moreover, even though I’m not a woman, let’s have a woman for a change! Alison Curtis has been nominated – she has never won but she got a new show a few months ago. Foley got the award the year after he moved. So let’s give it to someone in the same position. Women of Ireland! And men too! Vote Alison Curtis – even if you don’t know her, it is in the interests of fairness and gender equality! Let’s support women (or the astonishing lack of them) on Irish radio! Just vote for anyone other than Foley please!!! But if we concentrate our efforts on one we will have more success! It’s simple! And free!

    VOTE FOR ALISON HERE!

Some comments here are a bit ridiculous.
Firstly, I’m sure that the only music Enya will ever work on is her own compositions, and the only reason for her to make a live performance somewhere is to promote her own albums.
Secondly, she’s not very interested in music awards, and she wouldn’t do anybody a favour to have better chance in such competitions. She did everything for the music, and I’m sure even if nobody had bought her CDs, she would have composed those songs.
There are so many stupid rumours out there which have nothing to do with reality!
