  • X-Music for x-musicians feeling the crunch

    October 10, 2008 @ 9:09 am | by Jim Carroll

With Recession 2.0 now officially in full effect, songwriters up and down the land are no doubt digging out their guitars and trying to come up a catchy lyric which includes “credit crunch”, “recapitalisation” and “George Lee”.

Songwriters and musicians who have found that their guitars have been decommissioned since the last time they wrote a decent tune need not despair: a new music equipment store, X-Music, opens for business this weekend.

Located in Dublin’s Red Cow Retail Centre, X-Music is a 20,000 sq ft, muso-friendly plaza stocking gear from such brands as Gibson, Marshall, Korg, Roland, Ibanez and many others.

Sounds fantastic. Now all I need is actual musical ability!

Saw George Lee on his way to work on his Segway recently. That was quite a sight.

    At a guitar shop?

    “No stairway? Denied.”

We’ve got an office around the corner from them (no, I don’t work in the Harley Davidson shop but wish I do) and in the past week or 2 whenever I’ve had to go up there I’ve been craning my neck to have a sneak peak as their stock has been put on the floor. I’m glad I spend most of my working days in Clane or else I’d be in there constantly.

Though unless they’re comparably cheap to thomann.de (a delivery from whom I’m expecting today) and as sound as the people in musician inc. then they’re in trouble right from the off.

@ Ronan - Making music, like golf and sex, is one of the few things that you can be shit at and still enjoy doing.

@Ian - I think those Musician Inc guys are behind it. They were closed yesterday and had a note on the door saying they were busy getting the X Music shop together.

It’s a venture by Musician INC and Professional Audio Ltd, the guys who run Roland and Sennheiser Ireland.

Sounds very sweet, hope it goes well, but I echo the Thomann comment. Still the best music store around.

Ah yes you’re right. I heard one of them talking about it a few months back on the radio.

I had thought it was something to do with those X Music people who ran the place that used to be on the quays that is now I think an Easy internet cafe. Best of luck to them so, nice bunch of fellas in that shop.

Peter: No point spending thousands on a new set of golf clubs if you can’t hit a donkey’s ass with a banjo. And similarly, no point in buying a fancy new guitar to replace my current one when the guitarist in Busted can play better than you!

Best of luck to the guys, will be by soon to look at a new keyboard, visited their display at the rds recently, loved the roland gear, always did right back to my juno 60 days (those of you who dont know what a juno 60 is,…..)
see you soon. P.S every musician in this country is buying from Thomann, make sure you compete and win.
