Some Days Never End – venue changes?
Jim Carroll
As spotted below by one of our eagle-eyed readers, Neil from Thundercrack Playlist, there appears to be some changes afoot with the forthcoming Some Days Never End mini-fest at IMMA, Dublin later this month from POD Concerts.
The series is due to feature shows from The Human League with Heaven 17 (October 26), Aimee Mann with Sharon Shannon (October 28) and Seasick Steve with My Morning Jacket (October 29).
The POD website is still listing these shows at the original venue, but the “buy tickets” link to Ticketmaster gives you a different story. The Human League and Heaven 17 show is now said to be “Postoned – New Date TBC”, Aimee Mann is now switched to Tripod, Seasick Steve has moved to the National Stadium and My Morning Jacket are playing a standalone show at Tripod. Are we seeing another case of “unforseen circumstances” here (Tripod and Stadium are both much smaller capacity venues than a tent in IMMA and this also happened last year with Groove Armada and Dizzee Rascal)? Or has the Ticketmaster computer had a bit of a hissy fit?

So … what about people who have tickets for the supposed double-header with Seasick Steve and MMJ – we’re going to have to pick between them?
That doesn’t seem right. But then again, when has that ever had any importance to a promoter…
If it’d just been Seasick Steve and MMJ that had been moved, it may have had something to do with Jim James being injured when he fell off stage during a gig the other day. They’ve postponed the rest of their American tour as he needs ‘two to three weeks recovery’, apparently – so maybe it’s easier to be prepared to cancel one gig, instead of have half a co-headliner cancel. Weird that the other gigs have been moved too, though…
KP – that is a very, very good point. No idea. Maybe contact the promoters or Ticketmaster?
Lauren – thing is, they have MMJ now down to do a seperate show so the injury hasn’t had a bearing on that. I think the movements may have to do with our old friend “unforseen circumstances”
Well speaking for 4 potential Aimee Mann ticket purchasers, I was really looking forward to seeing her tour the new album which is excellent however we took one look at the ticket price (50% more than when she played Vicar St last) and practically double what it costs for her Manchester gig in the same week. Thought about having to wait through Sharon Shannon bouncing up on down on a stool for an hour – presumably the reason for the inflated price and
we said stuff that, let’s go see Elbow instead.
re: Aimee Mann inflated ticket price.
Just a comment to mreeyore’s post. It worked out cheaper for me to go and see Aimee Mann in Glasgow (travel, ticket and accomodation) than in Dublin (I’m travelling from Cork). Hopefully no Sharon Shannon and I’m away for slates.
And in respect of inflated ticket prices – deal or maybe that should be steal of the week: €12 to see Flight Like Apes and Giveamanakick in Cork on Sunday night!
Bargains to be had then:-)
I think I’d have to agree with mreeyore on these points.
While the 80s throwbacks line up made sense, the other two co-headliner shows were just the weirdest combinations.
Ultimately most punters would have been going to see one act or the other each night but defo not both. It’s this sense of having to endure one act to see the other that put me off for starters.
Combine this with the ‘pushing it’ ticket price and that killed any ticket buying OCD that I may have had left.
Was I alone in this feeling?
Jim, the MMJ Tripod gig is gone off the Ticketmaster site.
Tickets for Seasick Steve and MMJ gigs are advertised separately in….The Ticket. Offering an exchange for original tickets with a €10 refund for Seasick Steve and €20 for MMJ.
Jim, I banged an e-mail off to ticketmaster and so far I’ve been met with thundering silence. I guess I am guilty of the cardinal sin of ‘talking back’!
Ads in the back of The Ticket today confirms the switch of venues with a cheaper ticket price each. And there’s a partial refund at the door for the SS & MMJ gigs.
Ivor – MMJ show is now on sale on ticketmaster. no word yet from promoter on reason for all these changes
Both shows are back on Ticketmaster again but not on sale yet. Aimee Mann is on sale so they’ll probably be available soon enough. I think it’s great news. A full MMJ show will be brilliant to see. Says they’re onstage at 8pm so I’d expect them to go right up to curfew
Tickets are on sale for MMJ. Can’t wait.
Yes, I was able to get tickets for MMJ over the weekend.
Orchestra Baobab canceled D.T.U.C., though the only tour show that’s been pulled…
The Human League have pulled out of the Tripod show so it is just Heaven 17 and ABC now. Not exactly worth 44 euros is it!
I had travelled down from the North to see Aimee and was not called or emailed to infrom me of the change in venure, and missed her so raging and have contacted the people in charge. Any else have the same bother/ were you informed?
