Kraftwerk move autobahn from Roundwood to Dublin 8

    Jim Carroll

Change of venue for next Saturday’s Kraftwerk show – the Day In The Life festival will now take place in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin 8 (where Lenny, Moz and Iggy played back in June).

Per promoters POD Concerts, the change of venue is due to “extreme weather conditions causing the river at Lough Dan to burst its banks on the Luggala Estate”. As a result, production on the site this week was deemed to be “impossible”.

As the ticket price included a bus transfer to and from the venue, concert holders will now be refunded the bus fare of €20 on presentation of their ticket on the day of the show.

Capacity for the show remains at 4,999, doors open at 3pm and the bash finishes at 11.30pm.

Poor old Luggala – this is the second time this year a show which was scheduled for the venue has been yanked (the other, of course, being Moz who was originally slated to play there in June).

Joe – what a fantastic idea! Wire re-up tomorrow. I got the box-set on Friday and have now rewatched the whole series again. Have a lot of questions and queries but need to work out where the TG4 coverage is at before I write up the blog post.

(Right, back on topic – will DELETE any more Wire posts which follow. At least there will be no Generation Kill tangents because Pedro is on holidays)

Much as I would have liked to have seen Kraftwerk in the middle of nowhere, I’m happy enough that they didn’t just cancel the whole show. The press release says theyve added Lucent Dossier to the line-up – I thought they had been added ages ago?

Luggala is like a bleeding swamp at the moment. My men on the estate tell me that there’s also a bit of an issue with the insect population.

As such I’ll be remaining in my townhouse until all this kerfuffle is behind us.

As much as I love the idea of seeing them in the countryside, this pregnant lady is much happier at the thoughts of not having to negotiate any mucky hills.

Also, Jim on a total tangent, there was an article in last Saturday’s Guardian interviewing various judges over the last 40 years of the Booker Prize. Lots of them talked about the fights, the dicussions, the at-odds views and how coming up with a winner for a prize can be really random and unpredictable. TOTALLY reminded me of my Choice experience. :)

I would climb Mount Everest if it meant seeing Kraftwerk. Remember they don’t do many gigs and the ones they do aren’t done lightly, so knock the moaning on the head and go out and enjoy yourself in kilmainham.

I’m pretty disappointed by this, my sis is coming over partly to go down to Luggala. It’s always struck me as a difficult site for a concert however, it has the kind of access that means you can be snowed in around new years. Oh well, should still be a good concert anyway.

In theory, having the gig in Luggala sounded great, provided the sun shone and there was no problem with buses and congestion. It had the potential to be something truly unique and special, a real one-off event but on the other hand I wasn’t looking forward to the bus-trip down, and especially coming back. I had visions of people fuming on On The Record next Monday about buses getting stuck in the mud, trafiic jams and people not getting back to Dublin til about 4 in the morning and the like. The new venue obviously lacks the wow factor but it is much more convenient. AND I’ll get to see Man U v Liverpool game. It will still be an amazing gig, anyone who hasn’t seen them before is in for a treat. Hope Florian turns up.

While it would be great to see Kraftwerk in the middle of nowhere, I did think, as Quint says, that the idea of the buses could have gone horribly, horribly wrong. Sure, who the hell buys a ticket for a show based on the location anyway? Thought I bet the 2 Kraftwek fans living in Roundwood are just fuming at the moment.

If the full line-up was anyway half decent, then this might have been a bad turn of events. But seeing as it was a half-baked and over-pricey all-dayer anyways, and most of the crowd are going solely for kraftwerk, then this is grand news.

    Hello Jim/Fellow On The Recorders

Let me try and get this straight.

I would really like to see Kraftwerk live . I haven’t bought a ticket yet. They are still on sale. If I buyself one for €69.50 and I go to the gig. I will get a refund of €20 and the gig will only have cost me €49.50.

Pocket Calculator – If anything, it’s a very astute move by POD. They’re saving all the hassle and cost of the buses and car parks, getting a goodwill bump by giving people BACK some money at the gate, getting a better venue for a fraction of the cost (the cost to hire RHK is peanuts) and getting a huge PR bounce the week of the gig to get rid of the rest of the tickets. Bravo JR.

I agree with Dinny at comment 41. I think that rather than set up the site etc, they just pulled it. They had RHK as a second venue months ago. Kraftwerk ( or at least Ralf) was involved in some way in the Tour of Ireland. He participated but not in a competitive fashion. They absolutely adore Ireland for its culture, history and countryside. They are very cultured themselves. This explains why they come back here more than most places. I hope you all enjot the concert. I know kraftwerk will

    Guten Tag Jim.

We have been monitoring your transmissions for some time. Please continue.

Kraftwerk will be making two appearances this friday if anyone would like to attend. We shall be signing copies of our new AMD Phenom 8650 Triple-Cores and OCZ DDR2 PC6400 kits in Petes of Parnell Street from 2pm.

We shall then be doing a demonstration from 4pm in Eurocycles (and Eurobaby) in Sth William Street. Due to concerns over efficiency constraints, please refrain from bringing your own bicycle.

Word on the street is that Ralf has bought a large building just outside Dusseldorf to re-house Kling-Klang Studio and its publishing and merchandising arm, Kling-Klang Verlag. This is the first step on his eventual journey to retire in Ireland with his partner. Florian, having a teenage girl to think about now, has retired from live performances but will contribute to upcoming new material.

Tell you what though – there was not 4,999 people there – no way was that one sold out. I suspect *that* it the main reasons that it was moved from Luggala.
