Electric Picnic line-ups, stages and times

    Jim Carroll

First couple of proper line-ups are now beginning to appear on the Electric Picnic site

Here are line-ups for the three stages located in the Body & Soul area:

    Chill stage (main stage)
    Merka Bar stage
    POD stage

Want to see some films? Here is the line-up for the Cinema Stage.

And here is the line-up for the Pop tent, as brought to you (I think) from the people behind the wonderful Powderbubble from years gone by.

As more stage line-ups, dates and times are announced, I’ll post them here or link to them from this post.

Here are the Balanescu Quartet (playing the Chill stage at Body & Soul on Friday night) rocking out with David Byrne. Yes, Dorothy, there will be Kraftwerk at the Picnic this year…

The Cinema tent is showing 30 Days of Night…!!
    Awesome stuff.
The film is great (not as good as the Graphic Novel) but you should definitely see it on the big screen.
If anyone is bored on Friday at that time – go see it, great entertainment.

Milsoh has promised to be more electronic than at Whelans earlier in the year, so he should be a treat as well on Saturday evening.

ask Jimmy about his ill-fated gig at the Big Chill a few years back. It’s a great tale of woe.

Ah hahaha,i remember his travelling companion/label manager at the time telling me the story… The clincher was being camped behind the stage completely exhausted and unable to sleep because of Groove Armada playin a not too Chilled out set…. how we laughed :D

I like the idea of that Milosh conversation:
    Punter: ‘Hey Milosh!’
    Milosh: ‘Yeah?’
P: ‘I’m not gonna go see ya if you’re gonna be all rubbish like you were at that Whelans gig where Donal Dineen was dressed as a fisherman.’
M: ‘I’m not, I’m gonna be more electronic, you douche bag’
P: ‘Ah, see ya there so. G’luck now.’

Looking at the POD lineup, this is hardly the Pressure Drop who released the outstanding Upset in 92?

boardtc – I have sent an email off to find out the answer to that very question. If it is the same Pressure Drop, we should all be there to pay our respects. If its not the same Pressure Drop, a name change may be in order

Unfortunately it’s a different Pressure Drop I think. The EP Pressure Drop appear to be a reggae DJ collective (Irish based I think) as opposed to the UK crew who released the brilliant Upset and Silently Bad Minded.

Following up what Murphoid said @ 12, the EP-bound Pressure Drop are a bunch of reggae and ska DJs from Limerick who have played the Body & Soul area before

I wonder whatever happened to the orginal Pressure Drop? They released some great LPs (including one or two on Leftfield’s Hard Hands label), especially “Elusive” as Keith mentions above. Must put out an APB to establish their whereabouts

I’ve seen the ‘artists only’ brochure with the stage-times and it’s identical to that barely readable one that was posted around on various sites. No surprises. MBV in the Electric Arena from 9.20 to 10.50. Sex Pistols 10.30 to 12.00. This means the climax of MBV’s set (the ear-drum-shattering, strangely transcendental, like nothing you’ve ever experienced at a live-gig before, white-noise ‘holocaust’ bit of ‘You Made Me Realise’ will be causing a mini earthquake across the site as the Pistols come on stage…should be interesting. MBV next Sunday will one of the biggest talking points, not just of this year’s EP, but of the entire history of EP so far. That’s if there are no volume restrictions. Seen them twice at the London gigs earlier this year and they were absolutely monumental. Get ready.

A Dublin taxi-driver told this evening that there is going to be warm weather from this Friday. Dublin taxi-drivers are ALWAYS right. Always.

Quint – Anything which takes away from the horror which will be the pistols is alright by me. Surely if the Picnic really wanted a panto act that much, they could have just booked Twink and the Billy Barry kids?

P&M – they owe me 18 minutes of my life back. People started streaming away from the stage after one song but I stuck it for three before deciding anything – anything, even the happy hardcore stage – would be better fun.

How come it always takes them so long to release stage times? Is it because they have more stages than Oxegen? It makes it harder to plan and design your personal colour coded event planner… Still, can’t wait, can’t wait. *squeeee

they purposely hold back on releasing the times so they call sell more timetables down there.

If i can get my hands on the times for bodytonic/dance village then i should have an almost complete event planner

Actually, someone here might be able to help. I’ve got an Excel file with all the spoken word/theatre/Leviathan stuff on it but don’t have time/patience/expertise to convert it to HTML or put it online. Anyone interested in doing so and I’ll email it to them?
