You can use the weekly Etc post to plug and recommend gigs, new releases, TV shows, headache remedies and ways to get from A to B. Please be polite and declare an interest where relevant (or I’ll do it for you)

Hugely popular online mixtape site Muxtape has temporarily shut up shop pending discussions with trade group, the Recording Industry Association of America. Those in need of some muxes during this outage can always get their fix at Mixwit or 8tracks.

Herbie Hancock, Clinic, These New Puritans and Jay Reatard are the first set of acts announced for the Green Synergy fest in Dublin from November 12 to 16.

Minotaur Shock will be showing off his awesome new album “Amateur Dramatics” at a date at Dublin’s Crawdaddy on October 25.

Ace Norn Iron duo Oppenheimer (video below) get their live freak on with October shows at Dublin’s Whelan’s (2) and Belfast’s Stiff Kitten (3)

The Kybosh play Crawdaddy on Wed, with The Funeral Suits and The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock. Should be a good one…

Did anyone else go to Whelan’s last night and see the Canadian hardcore band “F*cked up” brought over by Forever? I haven’t seen anything like that in years –giant fat bald bloke for a singer, who moshed with the crowd, picked up punters and flung them across the room, encouraged stage diving, smacked cans, cups and microphones of his head repeatedly, and got fuly stark naked, and generally ran amoock. Great stuff altogether.

Jim - any press release from MCD as to why Sam Sparro has disappeared off the bill for Lovebox tomorrow? Suddenly he is no longer referenced on their website, or on the running order but strangly still mentioned on www.lovebox.net?

Spazz - that’s very interesting. Gig is not mentioned on his Myspace either - http://www.myspace.com/samsparro.

Maybe one of the kind folks from MCD who read this blog religiously every day might like to comment on why he’s not playing when he was originally announced - http://www.irishtimes.com/blogs/ontherecord/2008/06/23/lovebox-dublin-august-23-marlay-park/? And why nothing has been said in the meantime about the cancellation?

Or if they have simply forgotten to give him a stage and a running time and we have now kindly reminded them of this? Lets hope they don’t leave Sam hanging around the airport waiting for his ground transportation pick-up

@Sean D. Yeah man, amazing gig. I got to grab the microphone and produce my most hardcore gutteral roar ever at one stage. Interviewed Pink Eyes the singer beforehand for Analogue and he’s the nicest dude ever. Being the frontman is clearly a release for him. That was also probably the most fun I’ve ever seen/had in the usually po-faced Whelans.

Melodica Deathship also play in Limerick tonight in the Trinty rooms. Saw them play in Galway on Thursday. Dark intense hip hop show. Loving that 1803 track.

(Declaration of interests-I know both members of the deathship)
