The return of No Age and Times New Viking to Dublin

    Jim Carroll

Big thanks to On The Record reader flynnduism for pointing this one out. The fabulous No Age, the equally magnificent Times New Viking and the mighty fine Los Campesinos play Dublin’s Whelan’s on October 17. Tickets will be a recession-busting €15.45 for what is the only Irish date on the Drowned In Sound Shred Yr Face tour. Lets make with the videos!

Great price for those three bands (or any three band line-up, really. Great price full-stop).

Perving over Beth and listening to No Age rip the shit out of “Brain Burner” all in the same night!?
    Shit is on!

Lauren – have moved that post to the Wire thread. Can not believe that news – or that date!

Apologies, should have gone there in the first place – I’ve been avoiding that thread because I haven’t started S5 yet!

Lauren, we don’t even talk about the Wire on it anymore.
It’s been sabotaged by a superior show (Generation Kill).

    I really hate Los Campesinos.
Plan B put them on the front cover last month – what the fuck was that all about!?

I still havn’t gotten around to listening to those Los Campesinos! folks. They seem far too cheerful for my liking, what with the exclamation! mark and all. I’ll try again before the rain kicks off again

Excellent piece of news. The return of No Age and secondly Times New Viking confirmed is quite thrilling. October 17th will be a good evening.

On the subject of bands returning to Ireland a ticketalert popped into my mailbox this morning telling me not to miss The Hold Steady. I got all excited, but that excitement was dashed when I read down and learned it was confirmation of their opening slot for the counting bolloxing crows.

DiS’ poster has it billed as LC!/NA/TNV

But tm.ie has the Welsh kids at the bottom.

Los Campesinos sound very like Bearsuit, only not as good. They won’t be the draw of the night, not for me anyway.

yip-yip-yipeeee!!! Rip Yr Face off is right. Times NEw Viking and No Age played two of the most satisfying noisefests of the year. Surely the poor campesino’s will wither in comparison to both these purveyors of raw sound? especially if they are let headline? Anyway 15.50 euro, talk about unfuckingbelievable. That’s 3 pints or two boxes of fags. Any one of those bands could charge a fiver more for a solo set. Nice one and kudos to all involved.

Without wishing to sound pseudo-ish, Los Campesinos album is poor, the EPs and leaked releases that came out before it are way better though and they’re pretty good live. Probably a strange one to stick on with the other two though.

€15.50 is great value for just one of those, for all 3 it’s amazing.

By, “equally magnificient TMV”, do you mean show boaters at SXSW and non-starters at the Dublin debut? I’m as much of a noise-nik as your average Spaceman 3 / Huggy Bear acolyte but I pray to Jaysis the promoter and band drop the ticket price this time (they pay for $5 here in Ohio) and someone provides the guitarist with a tuner.

Probably a strange one to stick on with the other two though.

The impression I got from the press stories I read is that Los Campesinos seemed to pick or at least push for No Age and Times New Viking to be on the tour as well.

Really glad to have the chance to see No Age again, I’ve been listening to Weirdo Rippers a lot in recent times. I like Los Campesinos a lot more than I probably should, there’s such a sense of youthful optimism about everything they do which for some reason makes the music seem better than it actually is. Times New Viking are great when they get it right, when they don’t then are very not great.
