Meet my new favourite Mexican band. It used to be Molotov, but it’s now Chikita Violenta. And they sound mighty.

“War” is taken from the band’s second album “The Stars & Suns Sessions” which they recorded in Toronto with all-round superstar producer (and Broken Social Scene dude) Dave Newfeld. The band couldn’t afford to record in any of Mexico City’s studios so they went to Toronto. They also got to hang out with Kevin Drew. Hey, everyone who ends up in Hogtown ends up hanging with Drew, he’s a sociable kind of guy.

Whatever about the long haul to Canada and the side-effects of all that attention from Drew, the results are stunning and you’ll travel many a long road before you come across a better album of moody, magnificent slacker tunes. Get the album on eMusic, download the MP3 of “War” from the excellent RCRD LBL and watch the video below.
