Lykke Li and pop music fit together like Sweden and Ikea.

She’s from Stockholm and she’s joining Annie and Robyn on the Scandanavian pop wagon. You know the one with the loud bespoke bubblegum pop blaring from the PA. Unlike them, though, Lykke Li prefers to use two names.

51kzfvowgdl_sl500_aa240_.jpgHer debut album is called “Youth Novels” and it’s a beauty. Wibbly-wobbly electro-pop, sugar-coated space-age ballads, bittersweet bonkers lyrics, slow-motion comedown crooners: they’re all there. It’s produced by Bj√∂rn Yttling (the Bjorn in whistle revivalists Peter, Bjorn and John) and Kleerup (the Swedish Diplo who also worked his magic on Robyn’s “With Every Heartbeat”) and it could well end up as one of your favourite albums of 2008 when you get to hear it.

Live, well, she’s got it, depending on your definition of “it” might be. At her South By Southwest and Eurosonic shows this year, she wowed us, slayed us, seduced us with finger-popping panache and brazen bravado. And a clatter of great tunes like this.
