3.15pm, Saturday, Electric Arena. We’ll see you there.

There are so many acts I want to see in Stradbally this weekend. Every time I have a look at the line-up, I see another name that I have to, just have to catch. Of course, I also want to see and hear all the other bits and pieces which have made the Picnic such a wow since people first clicked to what was happening on these acres in Co Laois.

But I know it’s not going to happen. Even without this yoke to sweat over, it’s just not possible to experience everything. While using the festival-friendly three-songs-only rule is a good idea (it’s the only way to deal with schedule clashes at a binge-gigging lark like this), there are still acts who are going to slip through the net.

But, if I were you, I wouldn’t dare miss Chk Chk Chk (!!!). They’re the act I think will take the Picnic by the scruff of the neck and shake it like a polaroid picture. I saw them at Italia Wave a few months ago and they were truly immense. One blockbuster groove after another. A lead singer possessed by the spirit of Mick Jagger and a drummer possessed by a Sean Haughey moustache. It was a performance which put a smile on every gob in the tent.

Start practicing now, kids. Listen to “Must Be The Moon”, from their excellent “Myth Takes” album, or watch a couple of videos.
