The Ticket at the Electric Picnic

    Jim Carroll

They said it couldn’t be done, but we were obviously not listening.

This weekend, special Electric Picnic editions of The Ticket, everyone’s favourite entertainment supplement, will be produced and distributed for free to festival-goers on Saturday and Sunday.

The Ticket at the Electric Picnic will be the first time a daily publication has ever been produced at an Irish festival.

The Ticket at the Electric Picnic will contain news, interviews, the first reviews of the previous day’s events, various views on what’s happening at the festival, updates and a certain quota of smart comments.

For those who are not going to the Picnic, we’ll be linking to content from The Ticket at the Electric Picnic here next week.

    • Shauna says:

Will it have changes to the line-up? Sounds like a fantastic idea.

    • Jim Carroll says:

shauna – yes, the ticket @ EP will have the most up to date line-up, including any changes we hear about

    • Liz says:

“For those who are not going to the Picnic, we’ll be linking to content from The Ticket at the Electric Picnic here next week.” ! Thanks. Can you pop over and pour some lemon juice on my paper cuts too? Feckers!

    • Bren says:

Jesus that’s very ambitious, fair play to you Jim. Sounds like a great idea! You’re going to be flat out over the weekend…

    • nialler9 says:

      Is this like Live blogging?

My young internet brain cannot comprehend such wonders!

    • markg says:

Jim, will you be taking time out of Electric Picnic to see the Limerick hurling bandwagon fall apart on Sunday?

    • Jim Carroll says:

      liz – sorry!

bren – i have a feeling i’ll be spending next week in a home for the bewildered.

nialler9 – it will involve us producing the mag on the site, sending it off by carrier pigeon to the printer and then distributing it the following day on the site. I find it hard to take it all in too

Markg – I will be listening with one ear to the radio as i listen to Horace andy and The Aliens with the other ear.

    • Bobby says:

Wow, this is great! At Benicassim, there were morning papers that reviewed gigs that had happened just before I fell asleep AND they knew exactly how I was gonna spend my day! My mind was blown. Love this idea.

    • colly_browy says:

Will The Ticket at EP Magazine be able to solve organisational anomaly that has modest mouse, TGTBTQ and bjork on 3 different stages at the same time?

    • Pedro says:

      Deadly – good stuff Jim.

Will you be delivering fresh milk with it too?

    • Jim Carroll says:

bobby – we’ll see what we can do

colly – the easiest way to solve any organisational anomaly like this is the 3 tunes rule. No band at any fest or binge-gigging event like this is worth more than 3 songs unless you’re a fan who thinks everything they’ve done is God-like or there is nothing else on at that particular time you really want to see. 3 songs and move on. I’d skip modest mouse too. There, problem solved. I feel a Dear Jim page coming on for indie kids….

Pedro – and barry’s tea bags.

    • Vince says:

the times gets more like the Guardian everyday :)

    • Jim Carroll says:

Vince – at least we link to the RIGHT bruce springsteen download!

    • Sarah says:

Big undertaking, you’re going to be flat out alright, is the saturday ticket going out with the Times too? Or is it just going to be at EP?
      Either way Brilliant!

    • Kim Fowley says:

…but can you really write a decent review of an act based on three songs? Or will it be more in the format of “While Bjork was doing such and such on the main stage, Modest Mouse were…etc.” ?

    • Quint says:

Talking of organisational anomaly, why is Bjork on BEFORE LCD Soundsystem? A mistake surely…as for Modest Mouse, I’m just going to pop in for 5 minutes to see Johnny Marr in the flesh then I’ll be off again….

    • planet says:

tickets are currently on sale at ticketmaster,.,

    • Jim Carroll says:

      sarah – at EP only

Kim – sure, we write album reviews after just looking at the cover ;-)

quint – LCD more suited to ending the day with a bang, though the Guardian review of the Bjork show in Paris means i’m now REALLY looking fwd to her. As for this Johnny Marr dude – I didnt realise the Irish Indo rock writer was also in a band

    • JP says:

From what I saw of her Glasto performance Bjork is gonna be amazing

    • Jim Dubh says:

Sure, we make up our mind on the album reviews after just reading the sub-editor’s pithy headlines! :-D

    • Ronan says:

yeah or seeing they’re included for review :)

    • Murt says:

Jim, you work too hard. You need a break. And a kit kat. I’ll bring you one.
