Electric Picnic – Body & Soul stage line-up, day by day

    Jim Carroll

Honest guv, it fell off the back of a lorry. Thanks to the latest On The Record mole to join our merry gang for this – we owe u a pie.

I’ve always liked the Body & Soul area at the Picnic because it’s such a contrast to the rest of the site. That little stage they’ve got going on there has seen some very interesting stuff in ’05 and again in ’06.

Here’s what in store this year (there are a couple of TBCs and Special Guests which I’ve left out). I also hear there’s also a Village Hall late-night stage with more rootsier fare to look out for too

    • Pedro says:

      Halfset are good.
I’d be interested in seeing them alright.

    • John Cav says:

Si Schroeder DJ set and solo set. That looks most interesting. Mole done good.

    • Pedro says:

Why does the mole only know this one stage?

If he was any good he’d tell us who the hell is playing Foggy Notions and the Electric Arena.

    • Jim Carroll says:

      Patience, pedro, patience.

    • Sinéad says:

It’s a great little stage, really nice vibe around there.
      I’ll be checking out
      David Turpin, Donal Dineen,
Chequerboard (John’s stuff is amazing), Si Schroeder,
Les Bien (have yet to catch these live), Halfset (who’ll playing stuff off their soon-to-be released second album), Adrian Crowley (the new stuff is the best he’s ever done) and Iarla O’Lionard.

    • Matt Vinyl says:

I wandered into a house made of turf at last years Body & Soul where there was an impromptu gig by some Irish blokes with tabla and a sitar. Another bloke had what looked like a cigar box with piano strings stretched across it. One of my personal highlights.

    • Jim Carroll says:

sinead – whats the new Halfset stuff like? And when is the album out?

    • Sinéad says:

Hey Jim, it sounds really different to the first album for various reasons including a live drummer and a Rhodes/Harpist. One of the tracks is like Plaid when they were brilliant and overall it’s much more layered and a good deal heavier. I hate the term, but people will probably say it’s quite post-rock, albeit with an electronic heart. All in all, it’s a distant cousin to Dramanalog.

It’s almost finished, but sadly they missed out on John McIntyre (of Tortoise) mixing it because of dates not working out. It should be out before the end of the year. Will let you know the date asap.
