Have you ever tasted grilled puffin? It’s a little bit like chicken.

Well, that’s got rid of the vegetarians.

You have joined us in Iceland, a land which, as Sinéad Gleeson noted in a recent review of the Amiina album, rarely produces uninteresting music. Sure, there are probably some dodgy combos amongst the ranks of Icelandic bands, but we’ll concentrate on the good ones.

You think of Iceland and you hear… Sykurmolarnir! Bjork! Sigur Ros! Gus Gus! Mum!

And then, there’s Jakobinarina. Six kids making a pop-punk racket with razor-sharp lyrics. A band with attitude to burn. A live band who tear up the stage and then take over the audience. A lead singer with an unique approach to dancing.

I first saw them at last year’s SXSW on the back of a tip from David Fricke. The year before, the Rolling Stone writer had tipped Architecture In Helsinki to me so he’s got a good run in these things. When it came to Jakobinarina, he was also on the money. It really was one of those highlights you remember again and again afterwards.

Since then, Jakobinarina have released a few singles like “His Lyrics Are Disastrous”, played gigs, finished school and eaten grilled puffin. Now comes this new tune. Watch the video here, learn how to pronounce their name (it’s yakob-in-arena) and book your flight to Iceland.
