Apparently, it means “release the chickens” in Portugese. There, you learn something new every day round this way.

It’s also one of a dozen tracks on the debut album from three Brazilians called Bonde Do Role which is probably going to cause a lot of people to jump up and down a lot this summer.

“Bonde Do Role With Lasers” may clock in at just about 30 minutes or so, but it contains more life, energy, vim, cheek, attitude, sunnysideup funk, imagination, riotous sounds and downright fun than many albums twice as long. It certainly contains more chickens.

I saw them live a while back with Yo Majesty and The Cool Kids and it was quite a rumpus. Pedro and Marina are the MCs, chattering away in Pajuba slang about beaches and parties and office boys, while Rodrigo fires up the decks behind them. It could have turned very silly indeed, but they had tunes galore so it didn’t.

They signed two record deals last year, that man Diplo nabbing them for his Mad Decent label and then the lovely Laurence Bell spending some of his Arctic Monkey and Franz Ferdinand millions to get them on the Domino roster for Over Here. The album is released in this part of the world on June 1st.

You can count your chickens here, here and, when they come to Dublin later this month, here.
