Paddy, you forgot to mention the price – somewhere close to €70K!! It would be difficult to justify on price alone, when the 135i is almost as quick, has a beautiful 6 cylinder power plant and is almost €20K less. I can imagine that this is a very exciting car to drive, but the price and limited availability (it’s a limited edition and almost sold out) render it an unlikely possibility for the majority. In my view the 1 series coupe is the best version of the 1 series and it reminds me of the E30 3 series.

    • Paddy Comyn says:

Peter you are right about the price – that one was €77,500 after a few options had been ticked – I don’t agree that you can compare the 135i and the 1 Series M Coupé though – it is one thing to talk about the on-paper performance, but the car’s handling ability is astonishing. This car isn’t one that makes monetary sense, but when you compare it its real rivals, like a Porsche Cayman or indeed an M3, it looks like something of a bargain!

      Want one.

And an E30 M3 Sport Evo for weekends.

    • Peter Barrins says:

Well Paddy, I haven’t had the privilege of driving either but I can imagine the M1 is an awesome drive!! Is a comparison with the M3 or Cayman really accurate or valid? How would a Focus RS Sport fare against it? Or an Audi TTS, which is also incredibly expensive, not as fast and arguably less exotic than the M1. In isolation the M1 is an incredibly expensive piece of kit, particularly when one considers its origins in the rather frumpy 1 series hatchback. Speaking of which, I see pictures of its replacement in various magazines and in my view the looks are still on the ‘challenging’ side!! !
