  • Google Doodle celebrates Moog

    May 23, 2012 @ 3:57 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

It’s Robert Moog’s 78th birthday. So with that in mind, the clever people in Google have come up with yet another brilliant doodle – a working synthesiser.

If you don’t know who Robert Moog is, have a look here. Then come back and give it a try.

It only just falls behind the playable Pacman doodle for me. And maybe the Muppets one.

  • Nintendo partners with the Louvre

If you visit the Louvre museum these days, you might be surprised to see a new addition – the Nintendo 3DS.

  • The new iPad

    March 8, 2012 @ 1:35 am | by Ciara O'Brien

So you wait, and you wait and finally, two iPads come along at once.

    Ok, not really.

Apple announced an updated iPad at its event earlier, but also said it would continue to sell the iPad 2 – at a reduced price. So the iPad range has been expanded to two instead of a single model.

  • CES!

    January 9, 2012 @ 11:16 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

It’s January, which means one thing: the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. And luckily for me, I get to go.

I’ve already done the most important thing after getting off the plane: heading to In-n-Out Burger for the first double double of the trip (possibly the best burger you’ll ever get that doesn’t cost the best part of €20).

And today, we’ve seen Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Intel show off their vision of the future – or the next 12 months at least.

Next up is Sony, and from tomorrow we get to hit the show floor to get out hands on all the new gadgets that have been announced.

So stay tuned – there’ll be some updates in the coming days. And if you’re on Twitter, I’m occasionally tweeting from @ciaraobrien, whenever I can get a decent internet connection. Which, despite this being a tech conference, is harder than you’d think.

If you were in the right place at the right time, you might have caught some of the laser graffiti events Vodafone put on in Dublin, Cork and Galway.

If you didn’t, here’s the video.

Well, this isn’t a great start.

  • Google Doodle celebrates Henson

    September 24, 2011 @ 8:57 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

If you’re of a *certain age*, the Muppets were a major part of your entertainment growing up. Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Animal… I loved them all – and still do. But mostly Miss Piggy. She was blonde, fearless and didn’t take any crap from anyone. She knew what she wanted, and she wasn’t afraid to karate chop her way into getting it if she had to.

  • Parody ads

    September 1, 2011 @ 1:32 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

When big companies attempt humorous ads, they can often leave viewers cringing. Head in hands, how-the-hell-did-anyone-let-them-do-that cringing. But occasionally, they’re actually amusing. Microsoft has tried a couple, but this is the current favourite.

I think I might like Tad actually.

However, “Gmail Man” is another story. If ever there was a reason for me not to sign up for Office 365, this video clip would be it.

  • April 1st!

    April 1, 2011 @ 8:52 am | by Ciara O'Brien

In case you’d forgotten, it’s April Fool’s Day. Which means lots of fake stories will be flying around the internet, Twitter and Facebook.

Including this one from Gmail: Gmail motion. Controlling your email with your body.

    You know you want it.
