  • Tech tools: Microsoft LifeCam HD6000

    May 5, 2010 @ 11:57 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

Made specifically for notebooks, the Microsoft LifeCam HD6000 brings your notebook up to date with some high-definition video capability.

Simply clip the camera on to your notebook, connect it via USB and you are ready to start filming. It features true 720p HD video at 30 frames per second, as well as auto focus to help you get the best picture possible, keeping the image sharp even in close-ups. A 360-degree rotating lens captures all the action, turning halfway in both directions. The new camera also features something called True Colour Technology, which adjusts
exposure automatically depending on the lighting conditions. In practice, this means that even if you are filming a backlit subject, the camera will adjust the brightness and colour to capture the best image possible.

As a Microsoft product, it is optimised for use with Windows Messenger, but you can also use it with other video applications such as Skype.

  • Dell’s latest Inspiron

    January 30, 2009 @ 12:01 am | by Ciara O'Brien

There are very few things that can get me excited about a laptop these days. Netbooks made them ultra-portable and affordable. Apple made them fashionable. Widescreen multimedia machines – seen it all before.

So it’s a tough audience for Dell and its latest Inspiron 15 laptop.
