  • Google Doodle celebrates Henson

    September 24, 2011 @ 8:57 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

If you’re of a *certain age*, the Muppets were a major part of your entertainment growing up. Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Animal… I loved them all – and still do. But mostly Miss Piggy. She was blonde, fearless and didn’t take any crap from anyone. She knew what she wanted, and she wasn’t afraid to karate chop her way into getting it if she had to.

  • It’s not me, Facebook, it’s you

    September 22, 2011 @ 2:59 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

    Dear Facebook,

I understand you like to keep things fresh. I understand you might want to “spice things up” in a bid to desperately cling on to the people you like to see coming back every day. I understand that you don’t ever feel that the site is quite “done”.  I understand the old saying “A change is as good as a rest”.

But seriously. Enough already. It’s getting to the point where every time I visit, there’s something new. I almost don’t recognise you any more. And if I’m being really honest, there’s more than a faint whiff of desperation at this point.

  • The big clearout

    September 21, 2011 @ 9:54 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

Most people have a cupboard of death. You know the one, where all manner of junk is stashed.

Well I have a room of death. AKA the computer graveyard. AKA my spare bedroom.

And this is what it’s given up so far:

There’s a whole evolution of blackberry along the bottom row there.

These are destined for charity recycling.

  • Flying? BYO

    September 16, 2011 @ 4:01 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

We’ve all been there. That moment when someone else has the remote control, forcing you to watch something you’d really rather not. You have a choice: stay put and be bored, or leave the room and find something more interesting to do.

So 14 hours of travelling, one two-hour delay and a missing bag later, I’m in Anaheim for the Build conference.

  • Facebook revenue doubles to $1.6 billion

    September 8, 2011 @ 11:19 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

If you ever needed any proof that social networking is big business, just look at Facebook’s leaked results. $1.6 billion in revenue in the first six months of the year. $1.6 billion. That’s double what it earned last year.

  • Parody ads

    September 1, 2011 @ 1:32 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

When big companies attempt humorous ads, they can often leave viewers cringing. Head in hands, how-the-hell-did-anyone-let-them-do-that cringing. But occasionally, they’re actually amusing. Microsoft has tried a couple, but this is the current favourite.

I think I might like Tad actually.

However, “Gmail Man” is another story. If ever there was a reason for me not to sign up for Office 365, this video clip would be it.
