  • Say Hullo

    October 21, 2010 @ 2:47 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

Possibly one of the most useful apps I’ve come across this month for the iPhone is HulloMail. It’s voicemail, but with a difference. Replacing your network operator’s voicemail service, it’s similar to the visual voicemail that was a much talked about feature of the original iPhone.

  • The Social Network

    October 20, 2010 @ 11:50 am | by Ciara O'Brien

So last night I saw The Social Network, the (dramatised) story of Facebook. I’m not sure what I was expecting. Mark Zuckerberg to be portrayed in a bad light, maybe, given the rumours surrounding the script. Backstabbing, betrayal – the tagline “You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies” suggested something along those lines. And more than a few cringe moments, thanks to its classification as a “comedy drama”.

What I actually got was a mix of all three, but nowhere near the scale I thought it would be.

  • Gamer Expo cancelled

    October 19, 2010 @ 1:20 pm | by Ciara O'Brien

In case anyone was thinking of heading down to Gamer Expo next weekend – change your plans. The event has been cancelled.

Only two days ago, I got an email to remind me that it was coming up, not to miss it. A short message from the promoters today said the event had been called off due to “fire safety issues”.  It doesn’t go into much more detail than that, saying only that the promoter is hoping to reschedule, but full refunds will be given.

    Maybe try Game On instead?

  • Gran Turismo 5 delayed (yet again)

    October 14, 2010 @ 8:02 am | by Ciara O'Brien

If there was one game I was looking forward to in the next few weeks, Gran Turismo 5 was it. It’s been delayed for long enough, but we got a peek at E3 this year, and you could see why. The designers have put a massive amount of work into making the game look as realistic as possible, so much so that when you were looking at a shot of the car from game and the real-life vehicle, it was hard to tell the difference.

The release date had been set, a launch event planned, and we were almost there.  Almost.

But this morning, Sony announced it would be delayed yet again. This time, “production difficulties” are to blame.

Have a look at Twitter, and you’ll see GT fans are not happy. And creator Kazunori Yamauchi is coming in for some serious criticism for the delay.

You can’t blame them really. GT5 was first revealed at E3 back in 2006. And it had already been in development for a couple of years at that stage. We were given a March 2010 release date, which also passed without any hope of the game being released. Then November 2nd, a deadline which the game is clearly now not going to meet.

“Holiday 2010″ is the best we’ve got so far.

This game better live up to the promises…
