‘Don’t roll your eyes at me…’
Ciara O'Brien
There’s always a few weird and wonderful products at these things. My favourite this year was the eye controlled headphones at NTT Docomo’s stand.
The head phones work on the basis that the human eyeball has a electric charge, positive at the cornea and negative at the retina. A tiny receiver on the headphones picks up this charge.
The handsfree system is designed to work with an MP3 player or mobile phone. By rolling your eyes, you can increase or decrease the volume. You can also play, pause or skip tracks just with the movement of your eyes.
Thankfully the device also works when you have your eyes closed. It could get you in a lot of trouble at worst, and make you look a bit shifty at best. Imagine the misunderstandings: “Don’t roll your eyes at me young lady!…Oh wait, you were just turning down the volume.”
The headphones themselves don’t look too impressive – they’re just fairly standard ear buds – but seeing them in action was fun. Check out the video below.
