Mobile World Congress kicks off
At this moment in time I am sitting in a hotel room in Barcelona. My plans for actually getting out and exploring the city a little today are in ruins for two reasons: it’s colder than it is at home right now; and I’m shattered from an early morning flight to make the Showstoppers event ahead of Mobile World Congress.
It probably doesn’t help either that everyone has told me to watch out for the pickpockets, so now not only am I tired and a little hungry, I’m also paranoid.
So Barcelona will have to wait for another visit I think. From tomorrow, things are going to get hectic. Nokia’s press conference in the morning, Microsoft’s in the afternoon and a whole load of people to meet and things to see to squeeze in between all that and them kicking us out of the venue in the evening.
Today, however, I got a sneak preview of what is to come. The Showstoppers event at the Hilton, to be precise. And I’m pleased to say there were quite a few Irish firms there, alongside Plantronics, Opera and Navteq. Jivo, Zapa, Redmere, Dial2Do, YouGetItBack.com, AskMoby.com and Newbay were all exhibiting their wares at the event. And there were certainly some interesting developments in among the Irish contingent.
So for the next couple of days, I’ll be updating the blog with news and events from Mobile World Congress.
