Two words. Universal charger.
Thank god someone has finally got a bit of sense. Universal chargers for mobile phones have to be the most obvious and best idea I’ve heard to date.
It’s something you’ll hear at least once a day around the office – “Has anyone got a Nokia/Samsung/SonyEricsson/Motorola charger?” And because phone companies change the chargers every so often, you have to make sure it’s the correct one. Or put up with a bleeping phone, dying battery and the risk that it will cut off mid-call.
But no more. Now you can hang on to your old charger.
Of course, if this prompts the phone companies make the chargers optional extras, I can forsee a few problems. I have at least two dead Nokia chargers lurking in my wardrobe. Wires can be surprisingly delicate. And not to mention the money you would have to pay out for an extra charger should your existing one – which could be a few years old – go kaput.
But for the moment, let’s enjoy the fact that we will no longer have to send office-wide emails begging for chargers. And there will be significantly less electronic waste generated by people buying new mobile phones.
