RTÉ boldly goes… where everyone else has gone before

    Ciara O'Brien

Well, well.  It seems someone at RTÉ has realised that there’s a whole world of new technology out there that they can take advantage of. Say hello to RTÉ Player, the new online catchup service that will show programmes broadcast on RTÉ One and Two for up to 21 days after they’re first shown.

It’s about time our national broadcaster caught up with the rest of the world. We were seriously lagging behind, with BBC, Channel 4 and ITV all beating us to the punch. Not that it would come as a surprise to many people, considering that any kind of progress in broadcasting appears to take twice as long as everyone else (DTT, anyone?).

Less impressive though is the 2FM.ie site’s music store. DRM when everyone else is ditching the diogital locks? Too last year, lads.
